History of Art Markets Workshop | 26–27 November 2026
The GRESAC is pleased to announce two connected events dedicated to the history, actors and dynamics of art markets, taking place at the Université libre de Bruxelles on 26 and 27 November 2026.
Bringing together complementary perspectives on the history of art markets, these events will explore how art markets have evolved, how they operate, and how the individuals, professional networks and institutions involved have shaped their development.
26 November – Les Midis du GRESAC
“Old Boys’ Network? Female Art and Antiques Dealers in Early Twentieth-Century Antwerp”
As part of the GRESAC's lunchtime seminar series, Rick Faust (University of Antwerp) will present his research on the role of women in Antwerp's art and antiques trade during the early twentieth century, examining their place within a professional environment traditionally shaped by male-dominated networks.

27 November – History of Art Markets Workshop
Initiated by Anne-Sophie V.E. Radermecker (ULB) and Elena Stepanova (JRC-Ispra), the History of Art Markets Workshop will bring together researchers working on the history and economics of art markets.
The workshop is organised in connection with a forthcoming Special Issue of the Journal of Cultural Economics (JCEC) dedicated to the history of art markets. It will provide an opportunity for contributors and prospective authors to present and discuss ongoing research, exchange perspectives, and collectively contribute to shaping the scope and content of the Special Issue.
